About the artist:

Teodora Stojanovic was born in Belgrade, to a Greek father and a Serbian mother. Her parents separated when she was young so it was with her grandmother that she experienced the only protection and support she had. Teodora has experienced the world as a cruel place in which to fight constantly, where there is no place for total happiness. Happiness is momentary, a ray of light in the darkness. As a result, Teodora fled to another world, a painting world that aroused her imagination and gave her peace. Her life found firm direction the moment her painting teacher in elementary school noticed Teodora's work. The teacher decided to send her work in for a painting contest where it won numerous awards, incentivizing her to continue in the same direction.

She would often look at the art of Giorgio de Chirico whose paintings woke her up. Mystical places that were at the same time cold and yet also gave off some sense of intimacy. Empty streets with buildings behind whose corners should be curled any kind of beautiful square, a fountain, a beast that lurks. Later, she found a similarity to these paintings in Zurich on one of her journeys, but she did not stay there for long.

With her grandmother, she enjoyed long conversations about life, existence, and the world that later instigated an interest in the philosophy that she would intertwine into her paintings. Her paintings speak exactly about what she's always thinking about, what she's hitting, and what she feels. Paintings are a copy of life, the whole of life placed into a small space. Painting for her is the meaning of life. Her belief is that life is all-encompassing and that we need to fulfill our task on earth and in these bodies to free our souls.

Painting is for her everything, every thought, emotion, and experience. The painting speaks more than words can. It is a being, an organism. As simple as it looks, it is as complicated and unrepeatable as any living being.
