Walter Tjart was born in 1935 in Orlovo (Ukraine, USSR). After attending school in Siberia, he attended engineering school. Subseqeently, he attended adult evening classes in order to learn free drawing and painting, and he was active as a graphic artist and poster painter in the special subject design. In 1976 he and his family were permitted to leave the Soviet Union for West Germany. Since then he has lived and worked in Bielefeld as a free-lance drawer and painter. The focus of his work is on architectural monuments, landscape painting and town prints which are published only in very limited, exclusive editions.
