About the artist:

Nina Usacheva-Green was born in Rostov Velikiy, one of the oldest Russian cities. However, at the age of two, her family moved to Moscow. There, from her earliest childhood, she felt a strong inclination towards art and its ornamental and decorative aspects. At fourteen, she entered Moscow's School of Decorative Art where her main interest was Russian folk art. This led her to the Russian Icon and other traditional arts. In 1972 she graduated from the Institute of Graphic Art and Design in Moscow. After finished school she became involved with the Kinetic Art Movement and exhibited with other Kinetic artists in both Moscow and Leningrad. However, Kinetic art did not prove to be a lasting interest. After emigrating to New York in 1974, she began to develop her own personal style. In her canvasses poetic images and Rennaissance-like technique are combine forming decorative gaiety and memorable beauty. These unique works consist of many different compartmentalized compositions. Working on both canvas and wood, she adds the element of relief through a multitue of patterns and textures. Her work is reminiscent of Medieval songs, sung not with words and ancient music, but with lines and color.
